My experience with ehostpros has varied. Also, I'm currently a very low-volume user, so take my experience for what it's worth.

Here are the pros and cons:

pros:

price

uptime

prompt response from support (email only)

there are knowledgeable folks in support

cons:

my pop3 account got messed up once for apparently no other reason but them changing the login requirement from username to username@domain

some support people are clueless

Okay, so it will be option 2. I'll install MediaWiki and phpbb. There are also existing solutions integrating MediaWiki, phpbb and Wordpress, so if everything goes well we will even have single sign-on on the site. While at it, I'd also like to move the pocoproject.org server to a new hosting provider. Currently it runs on the same host together with our company web site, and I'd like to have that changed.

Can anyone recommend a reliable web hosting provider? Alex, how's your experience with ehostpros been?

Moving the Wiki content to the new system will require some manual work, but there aren't so many Wiki pages, so I see not much of a problem here. The big issue is moving all the Forum content over, preserving discussion threads, etc. I'll probably hire an intern to come up with a solution for this.

I vote as well for the second option, having an information source which is structured is very useful when you are trying to look for specific information and that way a wiki is really good.

The forum is also useful for the precise reason alex mentions.

My experience with phpBB is very good, so I agree with Chris. I personally have no problem with POCO mailing lists. But it is only because I am deeply involved here. Other mailing lists are annoying because I only occasionally want an answer to a very specific question and, to get it, I have to expose my email to an avalanche of unrelated information. People who occasionally follow things will definitely prefer forums where they can post a specific question and be notified of responses to their question only, rather than having to suffer through all the mailing list noise of the low-level framework issues.

All that being said, the main challenge still remains - converting the data. So, once again - we are looking for contributors. Chris, is there anyone in your community who would be willing to share their skills with us?

i vote for the second option, as ive never really use mailing lists, they always seem quite unfriendly and not very nice to use. On my site, we use mediaWiki and phpbb3.
