How do I get the value of a symbolic link please? I have searched poco Foundation and not been able to find anything.

This is currently not implemented in POCO. POSIX provides the readlink() function, which does exactly what you need.

I have my own implementation for readySymbolicLink which uses readlink for POSIX and uses a tonne of horrible undocumented stuff for WIN32. I found a few WIN32 nasties along the way to do with Unicode filename conversions. Yuck. Is there any chance that the facility will be added to Poco in the future? One of Poco's strengths is that it allows you to work on posix or windoze without having to care about the wildly different OS APIs...

I really want to see a portable read symbolic link routine added to Poco. I am ready to help with this since I have already implemented the tricky bit in Windoze. How might this issue be moved forward please?
