Does Poco provide a way of using serial ports?

Postby marlowabnp » 20 May 2014, 21:09

Hello,

SSIA. I had a quick look and I cound't see anything for it. Serial port access is notoriously OS-specific. On UNIX there is termio and on Windows you have overlapped versus non-overlap IO for either Windows normal or Windows embedded. So this is just the sort of thing I hoped Poco would have support for.

I looked at previous posts that mentioned 'serial' but didn't find very much. Looks like it was discussed briefly last year but no obvious conclusion.

Regards,

Andrew M.

There is serial port access in sandbox. I've used it (in production code) on windows, posix is untested AFAIK. Not actively maintained.

Hello Alex. Thanks for the info. I had a look and this is not suitable for my needs. It looks quite embryonic. I expected a listening thread for reading serial data, driven by events on the port. I also expected it to use overlapped IO for win32 and non-overlapped for embedded. Never mind.

I'm not sure if you're still looking for a cross platform serial library. I recently used a serial library from here (https://github.com/wjwwood/serial) without any issues.
