Can POCO run in Metro App

Postby yieps » 16 Apr 2012, 08:27

Windows 8 has released its beta version and will come to us later this year. I want to develop some internet Metro Style App for Windows 8. But It seems lots of Win32 API are forbidden in Metro Style App.

Is there any one made a build of POCO for Metro? Will POCO support Metro in the future?

I haven't try it yet, so this is just theory: most Win32 APIs not available in Metro are related to window management. Since Poco does not have anything to do with GUI, most of it should just work. There may be some issues though, like the DirectoryIterator ( here the workaround would be to replace FindFirstFile with FindFirstFileEx ). Runing the testsuite on Win8 will hopefully precisely reveal all issues.

Yeah, I guess most of POCO dependent Win32 APIs can work for Window 8 "Desktop" application. However, lots of APIs are missing for "App", e.g. threads, system informations, and the most important WinSock.
