Support for Symbian

Hi there,

I'm quite a newbie, but I'd like to know if I can build the POCO library under a Symbian OS. Did anybody try this before? If not, is it a scheduled future feature? And, moreover, is this the right forum to post such a question? (:wink:)

You probably won't have much luck with porting POCO to Symbian platforms, as they do not support full ANSI C++ - they use their very own exception implementation and memory management, which would require almost a complete rewrite to bring POCO to Symbian.
I know that on the latest Symbian releases you can now real C++ exceptions. But then there is the STL, support for templates, etc. ...

Symbian may not be quite there yet, but things are moving in the right direction with POSIX support and STLPort for Symbian:

Great! So now we only need a volunteer who ports the Foundation lib with the filesystem stuff, threading, etc. to Symbian.
