Moreover, I got error messages for RemotingNg.TCP.Connection exception that the connection was aborted due to protocol error. I am not sure if this could be one of the reasons. I'd recommend to use two NotificationQueues. One to pass work items to worker thread(s), and another one to pass notifications back from worker threads to the main thread. As outlined in these slides.

You may want to upgrade to a newer POCO release, which already supports Visual Studio 2015 (and 2017) out of the box.
