how to build poco 1.4 for PowerPC Mac OS X?

In a PowerPC G4 Mac 10.5.8,

./configure will detect Darwin and going to build x86_64. I also tried to use Darwin32 but it is going to build x86_32 instead of universal binary nor ppc.

How can I build the library in PPC architecture?

1. Create a new build configuration, by copying the existing Darwin32 configuration:

Code: Select all

cd $POCO_BASE
cp build/config/Darwin32 build/config/DarwinPPC32

2. Edit build/config/DarwinPPC32 to look like this:

Code: Select all

ARCHFLAGS = -arch ppc
POCO_TARGET_OSARCH = ppc

include $(POCO_BASE)/build/config/Darwin

3. Build using the new build config:

Code: Select all

./configure --config=DarwinPPC32
make -s

It does not work on Power PC Mac which does not have gcc-4.2.

Because most Power PC Mac have gcc-4.0.1, or Xcode 2.5, instead,
we need to make additional changes for build/config/Darwin
from:

Code: Select all

CC      = gcc-4.2
CXX     = g++-4.2

to:

Code: Select all

CC      = gcc-4.0
CXX     = g++-4.0
